Belleville High School ~ Belleville, Michigan
As the educational leader of Belleville High School, a suburban school of nearly 2000 students, I coordinated the strategic planning and execution of the school's comprehensive academic and social/emotional restructuring.
In concert with a faculty of 101 certified personnel and an administrative team of six, our multi-year restructuring focused on curriculum alignment, instructional practices, multiple tiered systems of support and academic interventions, assessments and outcomes.
The progress made during my five year administrative tenure continues through today. The improved academic outcomes and decreased incidents of suspensions, violence and absenteeism contributed to reduced rates of staff turnover and an unprecedented increase in broad-based community support. As a result, the district earned voter approval of a $79 million bond in 2008 to construct a new high school after numerous previous attempts had failed. This new state-of-the-art facility is the pride of the community with consequent increases in student achievement as well as property valuations.
Once one of the lowest performing schools in Wayne County, Belleville High School continues to outperform neighboring schools, attract new residents to the district and serve its student population with a robust, comprehensive program of studies, athletics and co-curricular activities.
