Leveraging Glen Lake's multi-age environment and low student-to-teacher ration, my leadership team designed a comprehensive program of academic initiatives and interventions to increase student success across all secondary grades 7-12. Through early identification, robust school/home collaboration and a regime of positive behavioral incentives, our approach reduced failure rates by half in the first year of implementation.

By year four, students were thriving due to numerous extra academic supports built into every school day. With 150 minutes of common planning time each week, teaching teams were able to collaborate on instructional best practices, lesson design and intervention coordination supported by regular professional development.

Instead of sanctioning failure, our restructured program fosters and rewards best-efforts, individual accountability and completion. Our model exceeded our goals for academic achievement and simultaneously improved over school climate with measurable reductions in truancy, absenteeism and code of conduct violations.
